The objective of the project

Develop an information and identification guide for marine animals: “Endangered and Protected Marine Fauna of Southern Chile”, combining education, science, arts and culture, to teach the community the diversity of animals that live on our coasts and those that have conservation problems or are protected by international agreements signed by Chile or national laws, thus encouraging their care and conservation.

What impact is the project expected to have?

Through the development of multidisciplinary educational materials, we hope to contribute to marine education and ocean culture and promote the dissemination and dissemination of the importance of biodiversity and conservation.

How has RELATO supported the project?

RELATO has supported us through a commitment of collaboration in disseminating the project, helping us award the project and now in the dissemination and dissemination of the product generated.

How relevant was that support?

 It has fundamental support.

As a result of the project, Chile generated the first endangered marine fauna guide.

The objective of the project

The Introduction to Ocean Literacy Course intends to enable people to understand the interconnectedness between the ocean and man, their importance and the essential principles of Ocean Literacy. Also, to provide basic tools that allow them to take action in the local, regional, national, and international needs, this field demands to form an Ocean Culture.

What impact is the project expected to have?

The impact would be at the Spanish-speaking level.

How has RELATO supported the project?

RELATO has supported the workshops’ review, the dissemination of the course and giving a workshop of the same.

How relevant was that support?

It has impacted the number of registrations and on the geographic scale reached by the course.

Is there anything you’d like us to tell or uncover from the project?

The course is for all Spanish speakers, where Ocean Literacy promotes an Ocean Culture.

Anything else you’d like to share with us?

It has been a pleasure to share this with you and see the contributions provided by RELATO. We are excited to move forward to reach more people and thus lay the foundation for an Ocean Culture.

 The objective of the project 

Design a sign language dictionary on ocean culture in Colombia to promote knowledge, valuation, and marine life conservation.

What impact is the project expected to have?

We hope that the project will provide vocabulary and educational materials about the ocean for the deaf community in Colombia.

The project also intends to be disseminated and replicated in different countries to promote ocean culture in the deaf community.

How has RELATO supported the project?

RELATO has been fundamental to the development of the proposed work, contributing to the investigation of background on sign language dictionaries or similar projects on marine issues at an international level. Besides, they have contributed to this project’s objectives and projections, disseminating them in other countries and searching for financing and designing workshops on ocean culture principles for deaf people.

How relevant was that support?

It has been indispensable for this project. Thanks to the support, we have been able to locate the work in the oceans’ decade and adjust its theme and design and the principles of ocean culture. We have managed to obtain contacts willing to implement this idea in other countries (Chile, Ecuador and Brazil) and support Colombia’s implementation. We have disseminated the project and the design of workshops as educational material, ideas, and feedback to the various activities currently undertaken.

Is there anything you would like us to tell or uncover from the project?

We are looking for support in financing to extend this project to other countries to design educational materials and so that deaf people who are participating in this project can travel and know the sea.
